WHO ARE WE?

BMA Warwick is a student-led society affiliated with the British Medical Association (BMA), whose purpose is to represent the views of medical students at Warwick Medical School on issues ranging from medical school experiences to national developments in the medical profession.

Our representatives sit on the Medical Student Committee of the BMA which meets three times a year to discuss actions needed to support students - and to decide student responses to consultations, contract negotiations and other issues that affect the medical profession.

Examples of the issues we represent students on include:

  • Junior Doctor Contract Negotiations

  • Changes to Medical Training Programmes

  • Changes to Medical Licensing and Registration

  • Changes to Medical School Curricula

  • Public Consultations on Health Programmes

  • Widening Participation in Medicine

  • Support for LGBT Communities and Mental Health Programmes

CURRENT REPRESENTATIVES

JAMES SWEATMAN

Executive Committee Member (Medical Student Committee)
Graduate Student Lead
Lead Representative for WMS

Hi! I'm James and I'm proud to be your representative for 2017-2018. I am a current Second Year student, who came to WMS following a career in consultancy and a degree in History. Working with Sona, I hope to contribute to on-going discussions about increasing medical school places, work with Faculty Staff and other schools to better support students in learning and assessments and to improve access to Medicine for graduates.

Please do get in touch with any issues or thoughts you may have!

SONA STREATHER

Deputy Representative for WMS

As the BMA deputy representative for Warwick Medical School, I will be supporting James in his role as Lead Representative.

I worked for several years as a nurse in a large teaching hospital in London, and am familiar with some of the challenges faced by the NHS and the medical profession at this time of change. I look forward to working with James to communicate the feelings, wishes and problems faced by the students at WMS to the BMA, and to support positive change in any way we can. I am keen to hear any suggestions you might have as to how the BMA can support the students of WMS throughout the course.

Please get in touch with us at any time.
